Windows Phone gains market share in China and Europe
Smartphone OS sales share for Q3 2015
Kantar has released its periodical report about the major smartphone markets for Q3 2015. The numbers are quite positive for Microsoft given the limited number of Windows devices available in 2015.
We can see relatively strong Windows Phone sales in markets like Europe and China, despite the launch of iPhone 6s in September. Compared with the same period in 2014, Windows Phone increases its market share in EU5 (from 10.3% to 10.6%), Australia (from 6.2 to 7.4%), and in China, where Microsoft has captured the “massive” 3% mobile market for the three months ending September 2015 compared with just 0.4% a year ago.
In the U.S., Windows Phone loses 0.4 percentage points to 3.9%.
Microsoft is preparing three new models for the end of 2015, which should reflect the smartphone sales in the next periods. Lumia 950, 950 XL and 550 are launching in late November / early September with Windows 10 on board.
