Windows Device Recovery Tool updated and now supports HTC 8X
You can recover a phone to the latest official software version
Microsoft has updated and renamed the former Windows Phone Recovery tool to Windows Device Recovery tool v.3.0.1. Aside the name change and some bug fixes, Microsoft has expanded the list with supported models that can be re-flashed to Windows Phone 8.1 in case of software related problems such as installing Windows 10 Mobile on non-supported devices like HTC 8X.
The tool is installed on a PC from here and the phone is connected to the computer using a USB cable. The Recovery tool checks for the last approved version of the operating system available for your device, downloads and installs it.
The updated tool includes support for more non-Lumia devices, general improvements and bug fixes. The name change hints that Microsoft may soon expand the number of supported devices and include not only phones, but also tablets, such as Microsoft Surface, Dell Venue Pro and others.
[Updated]: While many HTC 8X users have successfully downgraded to Windows Phone 8.1, some T-Mobile & AT&T phones are still not detecting firmware when connected to the recovery tool.
