Windows 10 Mobile Insider Build 14998 slips out to the Fast Ring
New features previewed for Windows 10 Mobile ‘Creators Update’
A new Preview build has slipped out to some Windows 10 Mobile users on the Fast Ring, masked as ‘Localization for English’. Version number 14998 brings some new features and enhancements over the previous public release – 14977.
Keep in mind that this could be an unintentional release, a build non intended to reach the public testers. Our advice is to avoid installing this build for now, at least until Microsoft explains the situation and confirms that there are no major issues.
Here is the unofficial changelog for Windows 10 Mobile Build 14998:
- Faster Windows Hello: cut out animation
- Glance screen: turn off the feature when charging – a new option in the Settings menu
- Settings → a new ‘Apps’ section in the main menu
- The ability to Reset apps from Apps & features -> Installed apps -> Advanced options. Reset an app in case of problems to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling.
- Feedback from every Settings page
- View 3D (Preview)
We will update this article once we learn more about Windows 10 Mobile 14998 or Microsoft release a statement.
[Update 1]: Build 14998 has not been officially released by Microsoft, but it somehow slipped out of the Internal test ring. Microsoft is investigating the issue, according to the Windows Insider boss. We strongly recommend to switch from Fast to Slow Ring and avoid installing build 14998, because you may lose the ability to upgrade to the next official build without re-flashing the ROM.
For any #WindowsInsiders who are seeing 14998, we are investigating. You don't need to install this one.
