Microsoft adds NFC payments with the Anniversary Update

Microsoft is preparing a new version of its Wallet app for Windows 10 Mobile with the Anniversary Update, and it seems that the new app will include Tap To Pay via NFC. Leaked version of the app has been tested by Windows Central, and Daniel Rubino successfully added his Bank of America debit card and then used his Lumia 950 to buy a sandwich at McDonald’s.

The report reveals that NFC Tap to Pay works not only with debit/credit cards, but also with Loyalty cards from US retailers such as Office Depot, Best Buy, and many others. Microsoft already announced than the future Windows 10 mobile payments would work with all current NFC systems installed in the US thanks to Host Card Emulator for Tap to Pay.

Microsoft has not revealed when the new Wallet app will launch for Windows 10 Mobile, but we expect it to go live this summer in the US. Windows Insiders may be able to get their hands on Wallet 2.0 earlier than July 2016, as the app reportedly works with the current Fast build for mobile – 14361.

The current Wallet v1.0 is available in the Store here.
