Microsoft may skip the fourth generation and go straight to Lumia 950

A new report by a Chinese blog with some accurate Lumia-related predictions in the past claims that Microsoft will release the new flagship Lumia devices under a new generation of smartphones with numbers x5x.

Instead of using the Lumia 940 and 940 XL names for successors to Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520, the company may call the phones Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL to mark the fresh start with the new operating system – Windows 10 Mobile

Microsoft already had smartphones with x40 numbers – Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. These phones came with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 on board and will receive updates to Windows 10, but if Microsoft wants to clearly separate its models before and after Windows 10, then a new numbering scheme could be applied.

We already informed you about five upcoming Lumia models rumored to be unveiled at a special press event on September 24. Among these models could be two flagships ((Lumia 940 (950) and Lumia 940 XL (950 XL)) and two mid-rangers.
