Nokia today unveiled a new design for HERE Maps available immediately at here.com and Yahoo maps while all apps for mobile platforms (Android, iOS and Windows Phone) will be updated later this year.

Some of the changes include a stronger differentiation and a better street hierarchy with colors and thickness. The different terrains now includes shading and colours so it would be easier for you to differentiate parks, mountains, campuses, golf clubs and other areas.

All unnecessary elements have been removed so the information now is easier to follow. Different map types (transit or outdoor) now differ in terms of information displayed as they only show important data and reduce clutter.

After Microsoft acquired the Device & Services unit in April HERE became a main part of Nokia’s business. Independent Nokia is now focused on three main businesses (Advanced Technologies, HERE and Networks) exploring possibilities in new markets.
