Mobile build 10586.71 is a candidate for official roll-out in February
Microsoft to release the next update for Lumia 950 range in February
Microsoft promised to begin rolling out Windows 10 Mobile to the old Lumia devices in early 2016, without mentioning the exact date. Now we understand that mid-February is the most likely period for the first wave, despite earlier reports that carriers and Microsoft might be releasing the update in January.
In an email sent to partners, Microsoft says that Windows 10 Mobile won’t be made available before mid-February – the company doesn’t want to rush it and the software is “only going to hit devices when it’s deemed fully ready”. Also delayed is the next cumulative update for Lumia 950 and 950 XL which both received a new build (.29) and a firmware update in January.
Meanwhile, we understand that build 10586.71 (or newer) could be the ‘real’ RTM build we expect as an official Windows 10 upgrade for all legacy devices (and the new Lumia 950 as an update).
The current ‘Technical Preview build’ has number 10586.63 and although it is quite stable and fast, Microsoft seems to keep polishing the OS before the official roll out in February. The next month will also give us the so-called ‘Last Lumia’ for 2016 – Microsoft Lumia 650.
