Microsoft introduces new security policy for Windows Phone Store, apps with vulnerabilities will be removed

Microsoft introduces new security policy for Windows Phone Store
Michael

Microsoft has announced a new policy for the third-party apps in Windows Phone Store. According to the new policy the company will remove applications considered having serious vulnerabilities. The developers will be provided with 180 days to fix the publicly reported security issues and submit the updated app. Otherwise, the app will be pulled.

The 180 day period concerns the apps which have not been exploited in the wild. For those cases, Microsoft might pull the app from the store earlier. There are provided cases in which the period could be extended, but they are observed as rare and Microsoft will work with the developers to receive the updated apps as soon as possible.

The new security policy concerns not only Windows Phone Store, but also the Office Store and Azure Marketplace. We think that it is an important step for the company in the right direction. Windows Phone is a growing operating system in highly competitive market and needs consumers who are ensured that it is safe and secure.
