Microsoft event on September 30th reveals what’s next for Windows
Windows 9 (Threshold) Technical Preview expected
September 30th will be an important date for Windows. On that day, Microsoft is holding a big press event in New York where the company is expected to unveil details about the future of Windows OS. The event will be led by two of the main forces behind Windows Phone and Windows – Joe Belfiore and Terry Myerson.
We are most likely to see the first glimpse of the new Windows 9 /Threshold, and then developers and enterprise users will be able to download and test this early built on their computers. While this won’t be a complete product and many changes will occur before the official launch set for mid-2015, we can now confirm that Windows 9 will undergo the following changes:
- Notification center similar to Windows Phone’s
- Virtual desktops
- New Start Menu
- Cortana virtual assistant will be coming to desktop computers
- Changes in UI for better integration with virtual desktops
Windows 9 could be a major milestone for Microsoft in their attempts to unify all OS versions into a single ecosystem running on phones, tablets, and desktop computers.
A German website has posted some videos demonstrating the changes in Windows 9 so you can have an early look of the new start screen and virtual desktops.
