Microsoft complicates the Insider program by announcing a ‘Skip Ahead’ option
Windows Insiders will be able to ‘skip ahead’ to Redstone 4
The Windows Insider leader, Dona Sarkar, has published a blog post to explain why Microsoft has decided to introduce a new option for Insiders in the Settings menu.
Microsoft adds a new option called ‘Skip Ahead’, allowing you to skip stabilizing releases and move straight to the next Windows release, currently known as Redstone 4. Skip Ahead should appear in the Windows Insider settings, but only for users who are on the Fast Ring.
Currently, there is no difference between whether you’ve selected Skip Ahead or not, as both branches (RS_release and RS_prerelease) are identical. However, in the future those who choose to skip ahead will again be able update apps from the Store.
If the things are too complicated for you, or you are tired of installing buggy preview builds, you’d better tap on ‘Stop Insider Preview builds’ and leave the Insider program.
Microsoft has already finalized the Fall Creators Update and the company will soon start working on the next major OS update, scheduled for Spring 2018 and codenamed Redstone 4.
