How to install the new Windows camera app on a Lumia smartphone
The updated camera app comes unofficially to Windows Phones
Microsoft has recently released an updated version of the Windows camera app with new features and improvements, such as more options for photo/video quality. Version 2017.1223.10.0 is available only for devices on the RS4 development branch, which means it can’t run on a mobile device. Fortunately, a hack can make this app running on smartphones. XDA Developers has a forum thread explaining in details how to install the new Windows camera app on a mobile device (Lumia). Here are the steps:
1) Uninstall a stock Camera app with help of Interop Tools. Delete the entries of the stock camera app.
2) Download modified Zip from here.
3) Install downloaded AppxBundle by enabling Deployment mode in Interop Tools and registering AppxManifest.xml.
The new app is noticeably faster than the stock one, but there are some bugs as well – for example the physical shutter button doesn’t work. The updated camera app has more settings for photo/video, and remembers the last scene used. There are also some UI tweaks here and there. If you want to restore the stock version, just delete this one and install stock Camera from the Microsoft Store. Microsoft is not planning to release the new Camera app for current smartphones.
