Snapdragon 835 to offer a 40% reduction in battery use

Qualcomm will officially announce its flagship processor for 2017 on January 5, but thanks to leaked presentation slides we already know everything about the Snapdragon 835. The new chip was built on the 10nm manufacturing process, leading to a significant reduction in size. At the same time, Snapdragon 835 will be 30% more efficient and it will consume 40% less energy compared to the previous generation (821). The company even compares the old Snapdragon 801 CPU with the new model, revealing that Snapdragon 835 consumes 50% less energy. Qualcomm also reveals that you can expect up to 27% performance increase compared with Snapdragon 821.

Adreno 540 GPU brings higher color reproduction, while DSP Hexagon 690 allows 4k video capture at 60 fps. Other improvements with this processor are related to the VR content, better graphics in games and improved audio.

Importantly, Qualcomm is the first ARM chip to support 64-bit Windows 10. As Microsoft announced in late 2016, Windows 10 coming to ARM processors would make possible creation of cheaper ARM laptops, tablets and even smartphones supporting full Windows 10 and win32 apps.
