File Manager in May, Cortana for UK and China soon
There’s some good news for the platform coming out from Joe Belfiore, who answered questions on Reddit on Friday. He confirmed that an official Windows Phone File Manager is in the works, which should be finished by the end of May. File Manager is one of the key missing features that most of the people have been looking for. There are several third-party apps available but an original manager is always better. Belfiore believes that with File Manager and some other new services, the gap between WP, iOS and Android is closing it.
Several screenshots of the File manager have been posted online, so you can have an idea of its capabilities. Users will be able to browse through the build-in storage and the microSD card, create folders, move files between internal storage and SD card, search in documents and more. The app is being tested on real devices and its final version should arrive in the store in late May.
Joe Belfiore also mentioned that Cortana, which is currently available for the US, will reach other regions soon. Microsoft is now working on v.1 of the digital assistant, which is expected to drop the ‘beta’ soon and become available for the UK and China. More regions will join a bit later, starting from English-speaking countries (Australia & Canada). In addition, Microsoft has opened a special web page for suggestions and feedback regarding Cortana. The address is cortana.uservoice.com.
