Energy-Saving Tips For Portable Devices
Trying to save energy on your mobile phone and cut down on usage and bills – these tips will help
1. Don’t leave devices plugged in while you use them. A lot of times, people leave their laptops or handheld devices plugged into the wall outlet while they are using them rather than relying on the battery. Not only does this essentially negate the benefit of having a portable computer but it also can negatively impact battery life..Batteries may become more difficult to charge if they are not regularly used. Try running the battery down periodically and charging it back up again to extend its life.To save money on charging use energy comparison
2. Use the power saving features on your device. The vast majority of handheld devices have options that you can use to manage the amount of power that they use. These power-saving features are particularly beneficial when you are operating the device on battery power alone. Taking advantage of the power-saving settings on your phone, tablet, or other mobile device can allow the battery to last much longer on each full charge.
3. Close any applications that you aren’t currently using. A lot of times, applications continue to run in the background even when you are not using them. This can put an additional strain on the battery, causing it to drain more quickly. You can see a list of applications that are currently running by using your device’s built-in task management program. From there, you can close any unnecessary applications and adjust their settings to keep them from running in the background in the future.
4. Only turn on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or GPS services when you need them. When these services are turned on, they run in the background, searching for a signal and verifying that they are still connected. This can cause your battery to drain far more quickly than if these services are turned off. Anytime you are not using these features, you should turn them off to extend the life of your battery.
5. Sync up your data manually. The data that is stored on your device may also be stored in other locations. Most devices automatically synchronize data between these sources, ensuring that the files in every location are the same. Unfortunately, that means that your device may be synchronizing the data in the background, using up your battery in the process. You can avoid this problem by manually syncing up your data rather than relying on your device to do it for you. If you don’t need an immediate backup of the data on your device, you can turn off the automatic data sync features, opting instead to transfer the data yourself at a later time.
6. Turn down the brightness of your screen. Many devices are sent out from the factory with the brightness of the screen turned way up. You may be able to get by with a far dimmer setting. Turning down the brightness of your screen can wind up saving a significant amount of power. Experiment with different settings to see how low you can set the brightness without affecting the overall look of the device.
7. Set your display to switch to standby mode more quickly. Most handheld devices are set to switch to sleep mode or standby mode automatically after not being used for a specific period of time. Lowering the amount of time before your screen switches off can save a lot of power by minimizing the battery drain that occurs when your device is not in use. Most devices require a lot of energy to keep the display active. By allowing it to turn off more quickly when your device is idle, you can reduce its overall power consumption, helping your battery last much longer.
8. Turn off your device whenever you don’t need it. Today, most people have become so reliant on their handheld devices that the thought of turning them off can be a little bit frightening. There are certain situations, however, were powering down your device is not only possible – it is also practical. For instance, if you are going into a meeting or if you have an appointment with your doctor, turning off the power to your device makes sense. All of the messages that come in while the power is off will still be there when you turn it back on again. Best of all, you can save power the entire time your device is shut off.
Additional tip: Don’t leave your charger plugged into the wall. The charger continues to draw electricity from the outlet when it is plugged in, even if there is no device attached to it. Unplugging it from the wall can help reduce your energy usage.
