HERE Drive+ for Windows Phone 8.1 now available for free

HERE Drive+ for Windows Phone 8.1 now available for free
Michael

Nokia promised to make its HERE Drive+ navigation free for all smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1, and as soon as Microsoft unleashed “Preview for Developers” all users received an update which transformed HERE Drive to Drive+. In addition, HERE Maps got a small update, with improved satellite images and minor tweaks.

While previously, Drive+ was free for selected smartphones and markets, now the app is open to every single device running Windows Phone 8.1, regardless of its class or user’s location. With HERE Drive+ you can use turn-by-turn voice navigation and GPS tracking in more than 97 countries. The updated app brings ‘tap destination’ support which allows you to tap anywhere on the map to select destination, while the previous version required to perform a search. Another method to select destination is to kindly ask Cortana. She will certainly help a lot. Just tell her: “Get directions to…”, and HERE Drive+ starts.

HERE Maps got updated to version 3.6.97.8, with aerial imagery improvements in the rural areas nd two finger gesture support allowing users to rotate the map or activate 3D. With these satellite improvements, Nokia Maps are now closer to Google, especially in the cities, while in the countryside there is still a lot of work ahead.

We expect Nokia to update its HERE apps at least once again with further fixes and adjustments before the general release of Windows Phone 8.1 reach all non-developer smartphones sometimes in Q2/Q3.
