Nokia Lumia 930 will be the first smartphone to offer Dolby Digital Plus audio recording thanks to its four HAAC microphones and the upcoming Lumia Cyan firmware. The software update, which is currently under development, will come preloaded on the smartphone, enabling additional camera settings under ‘Video’, so users can switch to Dolby Digital 5.1 rich audio recording. Two audio streams will be recorded – a standard Stereo and a Dolby, and users will be able to edit each of them.

Very few internal Lumia 930 devices are currently running experimental software that enables Dolby Digital for testing purposes, with the quality of the audio described as absolutely stunning. Dolby Digital Plus audio recording should be finished in the coming weeks, just in time for the Lumia 930 launch in June.

Two of Nokia’s current handsets (Lumia Icon and Lumia 1520) have the same high-amplitude microphones as the 930, so these devices will be getting this feature too. Lumia 1520 and Icon users will need to wait for the Lumia Cyan software update, scheduled to arrive with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 OS update this summer.

Nokia Lumia Icon for Verizon and Lumia 930 are almost identical handsets as they share basically the same hardware. Lumia 1520 is the largest Windows Phone to date, with a 6-inch screen and a quad-core CPU. All three devices use the same 20-megapixel PureView sensor for a great photographic experience.
