Microsoft puts more salt in the wound called Windows 10 Mobile

File this under the rumor section for now as this is not an official information, but a report at ZDNet reveals that Microsoft may not upgrade all existing Windows 10 phones to Redstone 2. The Creators Update may be coming only to smartphones released in the past 2 years, which leaves devices like the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 930 without official support for Redstone 2. However, all excluded models could still join the Insider Program and install the RTM build (14393) for Windows 10 Creators Update.

So, here is the list of the devices that are expected to get the Redstone 2 update without joining one of the Windows Insider rings:

  • Alcatel IDOL 4S
  • Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
  • HP Elite x3
  • Lenovo Softbank 503LV
  • MCJ Madosma Q601
  • Microsoft Lumia 550
  • Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL
  • Microsoft Lumia 650
  • Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
  • NuAns Neo
  • VAIO PhoneBiz

Missing from this list are phones like the Nokia Lumia 1520 (announced October 2013), Nokia Lumia 930 (announced April 2014), Nokia Lumia 830 /730/735 (announced September 2014). All these models are at least 2 years old and according to Microsoft, they are outside of the OEM support period. However, these devices will be put on the extended support list, with security patches and updates in the coming months.

Excluded from the Redstone 2 update are:

  • Microsoft Lumia 430
  • Microsoft Lumia 435
  • Microsoft Lumia 532
  • Microsoft Lumia 535
  • Microsoft Lumia 540
  • Nokia Lumia 635

  • Nokia Lumia 830
  • Nokia Lumia 930
