The cancelled Lumia 1030/1040 leaked once again in photos
Real-life images of the Lumia McLaren
In July 2014, Microsoft decided to cancel the successor to the Lumia 1020. The device codenamed McLaren was supposed to have high-end hardware, innovative 3D Touch interface, and a 50MP camera.
At that time, many Nokia /Windows fans were hoping that this phone could replace their aging Lumia 1020, but Microsoft had different plans. The software giant ended up scrapping the project in late 2014. A rumor has it that the main reason for canceling the phone was the problematic and unfinished 3D touch interface the phone was supposed to include. Some sources believe that Microsoft is still working on the software and we may even see it implemented in Windows 10 Mobile in the future.
While the future of 3D touch is uncertain, the Lumia McLaren (or call it Lumia 1030/1040) is obviously dead… or at least for the general public.
It seems that some lucky users are still playing with McLaren prototypes and that’s why we have seen a series of leaks with photos and videos of the phone.
The new photos show off the McLaren with a huge camera hump, its sides, Start screen and About pages. The images also reveal that the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 800 processor and runs Windows Phone 8.1.
