Bluetooth 4.0 LE for all high-end Lumias before the end of 2013
Nokia Australia has confirmed that the Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy support will be enabled for all high-end Lumia handsets before the end the year. The support will reach Lumia 820, 920, 925 and 1020 through a system update, Nokia Australia has explained. All new high-end models released after the Lumia 1020 will probably arrive with Bluetooth 4.0 LE enabled. The Lumia models from the mid-range / low-end class – 520, 620, 625 and 720 currently support BT 4.0 LE.
The Bluetooth support was expected to arrive in the summer, but Nokia released the Amber refreshment without the low energy support included. It seemed that the company postponed the enhancement for a later update. It is argued, that Bluetooth 4.0 LE will be enabled with the so-called Bittersweet shimmer update or it will arrive with a single system update.
Microsoft has already issued a statement saying that Bluetooth 4.0 support is not likely to arrive before GDR3 update later this year. The other Windows Phone manufacturers HTC, Samsung and Huawei should either wait until Microsoft release its GDR3 or work on their own updates.
