A Brief about Tablets

A smaller version of a computer which is a mobile device runs on a mobile operating system. It has a big display generally larger than the mobile phones with a touch screen and a rechargeable battery. The functions of a tablet are more or less the same as a computer. The modern tablets have many similarities with modern smartphones and the only dissimilarity is the size of these two devices. The advantage of the tablets is that it also can access the cellular networks so that the user can use internet connectivity through the tablets. Tablets are operated by the touch screen feature and also can be operated by gesture controls and digital pens. Tablets don’t need a mouse or keyboard to be operated as there are virtual keyboards pre-installed in the tablets.

The Concept of Tablets

Tablets were first conceptualized by Stanley Kubrick in a movie based on the science fiction in 1968. Apple released its iPad as the mass production and from then tablets have evolved a lot and have covered the market almost. They are now used in mass scale for personal, professional and educational purposes.

Some Historical Tales about Tablet

The ancestor of the tablet computer is known as pen computing where a paper was used as an output screen and a pen attached to electromechanical actuators used to put the output on it. The designing of the tablet computers were finally done after several technological discoveries that led the smartphones and computers assembled together. The rapid scaling beside the miniaturization of MOSFET transistors made it possible to design a smart and portable device where the functions of a computer and smartphone can be done together.

GRiDPad was the first commercially made tablet computer which was basically based on the operating system MS-DOS. In 1992 IBM developed ThinkPad which used to run on the GO Corporation’s PenPoint OS. Thereafter Apple came up with their APPLE NEWTON which also ran on the NEWTON OS. After lots of tastes and innovations, in the year 2000 Microsoft launched the Pocket PC 2000 which had the operating system named Windows CE 3.0. In the meantime, Nokia planned to launch an internet tablet way before the year 2000 and in 2001 they made M510 run by EPOC that had opera browser along with a 10-inch screen. Though this device was not released in the market, at last in 2005 they put their first step in the tablet market with the Nokia 770 based on the Maemo OS which was basically Linux software. After many more innovations and taste trials, finally, the modern tablets are manufactured.

The first OS that dominated the tablets in the 21st century was Android. The first Android-based tablets appeared in the market in the year 2009 which was planned in 2008. Since then many companies have made their tablets with the then-latest technologies, but the most popular version of the tablet came with windows 10.

Different Types of Tablets
