Windows Phone`s market share keeps growing in Europe
Kantar WorldPanel has revealed the results of its research regarding the mobile operating systems` shares on the smartphone market for the second quarter of this year. The results show that the Windows Phone`s market share in Europe keeps growing and thus reinforcing its third position immediately after Android and iOS.
To be more precise, its share is increasing on account of the drop of BlackBerry and Symbian. As expected, this research presents a mixed picture. In some countries the market share of WP shows an increase while in others the opposite. More importantly, for five of the biggest markets in Europe – Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, and Germany, the results show a share of 6.9 percent whereas at the same time last year it was 4.7 percent.
The biggest growth is in France where it is four times higher: from 2.3 percent in Q2 last year to 9 percent in Q2 this year. Other country with a high rate is the UK where the growth is from 4.5 percent in Q2 last year to 8.6 percent in Q2 this year. However, the numbers show a slight drop in some countries. For example, in Spain the market share of WP has fallen from 2.2 percent to 1.4 percent for the same period. According to the Kantar Worldpanel global strategic insight director Dominic Sunnebo, the driving force behind the higher rates is the low and mid-range Windows Phone handsets.
