Windows Phone exceeds 10% share in Europe, 5% share in US
A new data from Kantar Worldpanel shows that the Windows Phone platform keeps rapidly growing, especially in Europe. The data reveals that the operating system has exceeded a 10% market share in the five largest European countries (UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain), whereas in the United States the share is close to 5%.
In October this year the largest market share Windows Phone marks in Italy – 16.1% which is with 4.4% more than the same period previous year. In this country Windows Phone surpasses iOS which has a 10.1% and takes the second position, whereas Android is still leading.
In the UK Windows Phone has reached an 11.9% share which is with 7.3% more in comparison with a year ago. Android is leading the market with a 55.5% share, followed by iOS with 28.7%. In Germany, Windows Phone holds a 6.3% which is an increase with 4.0% compared to the previous year, whereas Android leads with 77.5% followed by iOS with 13.8%.
In France Windows Phone has reached 12.5%, with 7.4% more in comparison to a year ago. Android holds 68.1% share, followed by iOS with 15.9%. In Spain Windows Phone and iOS have a same share of 4.3% and Android is leading with 90.1%. The increase for Windows Phone compared to the previous year is 2.0%.
In the US, Windows Phone has a more restrained but continuous growth. In October its market share is 4.8%, with 2.3% more than the previous year. What can be seen from the data is that China is the most difficult market for Windows Phone where its share has declined from 3.9% the previous year to a 3.5% this year. All in all, Android still leads everywhere; iOS is at second place followed by Windows Phone. However, contrary to Windows Phone, iOS marks a decrease in most of the countries. There is no information on South America, but as we informed you previous month Windows Phone dominates there and we doubt that the situation has changed since then.
