Windows Phone continues to grow in Europe, USA, loses in Asia
As Microsoft doesn’t provide any data reports about the Windows Phone penetration around the world, we should rely on research companies such as IDC or Kantar. The latter has just published its new report about the smartphone market in different regions, revealing that Windows Phone continues to grow in Europe and other regions, while in some Asian countries such as Japan and China, Microsoft’s platform loses share, compared with the same period in 2013.
According to Kantar, Windows Phone gains:
+ 3.4% in the UK for a total of 10.1%
+ 2.1% in Germany for 7.4%
+ 1.2% in the USA for 5.3%
+ 2.0% in France for 8.3%
+ 4.2% in Italy for 16.1%
+ 3.9% in Spain for 4.7%
+ 1.5% in Australia for 5.0%
Regions where Windows Phone loses:
– 0.3% in China for a total of 1.0%
– 0.2% in Japan for a total of 0.2%
All numbers show year-to–year change for February 2013/February 2014. Market situation is expected to change later in 2014, as Microsoft will launch Windows Phone 8.1, while many manufacturers will offer smartphones based on the new platform.
