Windows 10 Redstone 2 Update may resume workspace between PC and phone
App and workspace syncing between form factors coming to Windows 10
With the Anniversary Update for Windows 10, Microsoft laid out the foundation for a feature called ‘Continue App Experiences’ that allows certain apps to sync information between devices so you can continue working on another device exactly where you left off. The feature is still in development, and requires certain app modifications which not many developers have done so far, so the synchronization in its current state is not as useful as it could be.
But with the Redstone 2 update for Windows 10, Microsoft wants to improve the app-state synchronization across devices by introducing a contextual UI that will pop up for these apps. This will allow users to control the way in which these apps sync their states.
In addition to a new app-state restore menu, Microsoft is considering to include an option to Resume the entire workspace with the help of Cortana and the Cloud. According to Windows Central, the feature will be built into Cortana, allowing users to seamlessly move between form factors and sync their workflow.
These new features are expected to come with the Redstone 2 Update in Spring 2017. Improvements for Continuum in Windows 10 Mobile have also been revealed this month during the Ignite conference.
