Windows 10 overtakes Windows 7 in global usage
The most used Deskop OS in January was Windows 10
StatCounter measures the desktop usage share by aggregating data of 2 million websites. It’s an indicator about which OS is used the most for a specific month, not which OS has the most installations. According to the latest data from January, Windows 10 finally overtook Windows 7 in usage share globally, having a 42.78% share, while Windows 7 had 41.86%. Earlier Windows versions were far beyond – Windows 8.1 was at 8.72%, while the ancient Windows XP had a 3.36% usage share.
Windows 10 started with a good pace 29 months ago, and slowly progressed to over 600 million installations last year. Microsoft released three major updates for Windows 10, which unlike previous OS versions, introduced not only bug fixes but also new functionalities for free.
