‘Windows 10 Lean’ is a new OS version that sits below ‘Home’
Slimmed down version of Windows 10 appear in build 17650
The ISO files for latest Insider preview build 17650 includes a new Windows version currently called ‘Lean’. This could be a temporary name, just like the Windows 10 S first appeared under the ‘Cloud’ name for Insiders.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Windows 10 Lean is a version that doesn’t include legacy components and apps like Registry Editor, Internet Explorer, Paint and others. Adding ‘Lean’ to the ISO files for Insiders could be the first step towards the modular, modern version of Windows 10 for which we informed you several times in the past.
Windows 10 Lean and Windows Core OS could be the same thing – a slimmed down version of Windows for modern devices, including phones. It will probably require less storage space and RAM capacity to run properly on future devices. Microsoft may be discussing the new version of Windows at the BUILD conference next month.
