VLC for Windows Phone with a major upgrade

The popular audio & video player VLC picked up two updates for Windows Phone 8.1 which include a number of new features, design changes, performance improvements and bug fixes.

The latest version of VLC for Windows Phone is 1.3.1 and the app now shares 99% of the code with the Windows 8.1 app for PCs and tablets. This is the last step before the migration to Windows 10 and a real universal VLC app.

A changelog shared by the app developer Thomas Nigro has revealed the improvements brought with the last updates. First, VLC for Windows Phone has a new user interface with a dark theme that is picked up automatically to match your phone’s dark theme.

The colors match those on the Android and iOS apps. There are new icons and alignments, a new button for refreshing the video library, and a new design for the video player. Users can now order albums by artist, date, or album.

Parsing and layer rendering have been improved by 50% to 130% after a XAML optimization. Scrobbling to LAST.fm has been fixed, while searching albums or videos is easier.

You can download and test the media player for free. Here is the download link from the Windows Phone store.
