Update 2 is on Lumia 640/640 XL, Preview for Developers Update coming soon
Revamped Settings page and App Permission spotted at the MWC
Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are the first models within the new 4rd series of Lumia smartphones and the first to come with Windows Phone 8.1.2 (Update 2 or GDR2) pre-installed. The OS version on these new phones is 8.10.151116 and WMPoweruser have spotted are a few differences between Update 1 (Denim) and Update 2.
First of all, the Settings menu gets refreshed with a better organization in sections just like in the Windows 10 Preview for Phones. The infinite scrolling is gone, and you will definitely find things more easily than WP 8.1.1. Swiping in Settings is gone too, because all sections are now grouped into categories like “Personalization”, “Network+ Wireless”, “Display” and others.
App Permission is also a new feature allowing you to customize apps’ access to certain features like calendar, messaging and more.
There could be other small tweaks in Update 2, like Bluetooth keyboard support. We should learn more details very soon when Microsoft starts rolling out the update through the Preview for Developers program.
