Update 2 coming soon, offering better settings
Microsoft is reportedly working on the second planned update of the Windows Phone 8.1 platform which has been called Update 2 (GDR 2). This update will further improve WP8.1 OS before Update 3 in early 2015 and the major transformation expected with ‘Threshold’ in mid-2015.
Rumors about Update 2 have been circulating on the Internet for quite a while now. The latest leak coming from NPU describes some of the changes in GDR 2.
There will be a new Settings app so users can arrange their settings into categories, sort them alphabetically, and more. This is probably one of the most credible rumors about Update 2 so far, as Windows Phone’s leader himself mentioned organized Settings would be coming soon to Windows Phones.
The other possible changes expected to come with Update sound credible too. Cortana digital assistant will reach more countries as an Alpha and users will be able to toggle mobile data between on and off directly from the Notification Center.
Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 should be available for Developers some times in October or November this year alongside a new firmware for Lumia handsets codenamed ‘Debian Red’. The next wave of Lumia devices (730, 735, 830) will be coming with the updates pre-installed.
