Tablet sales decline 5.4% as detachable niche grows slower than expected
Here are the top 5 tablet market vendors in Q3 2017
IDC has released their quarterly report on the tablet market. In the previous quarter (Q3), there were 40 million tablet shipments, compared with 42.3 million in the same quarter last year. The tablet market has declined 5.4% on a yearly basis, not helped much by the new generation of detachables whose sales were slower than expected.
There are only two vendors in the detachable market niche – Apple and Microsoft, which was clearly not enough to boost the overall sales of the tablets. IDC’s own survey has found that owners of both convertibles (notebook PCs with hardwired keyboards) and detachables were far more inclined to recommend a convertible to another shopper than a detachable.
Apple has shipped 10.3 million iPads in Q3 2017, or the sales have increased 11.4%. Samsung is in the second position with 6 million devices, followed by Amazon (4.4), Huawei (3) and Lenovo (3 million units).
