Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 850 processor.

Qualcomm has unveiled its new top-end processor aimed at Windows 10 ultrabooks. The Snapdragon 850 model, coming late 2018, will be an exclusive chip for Windows 10, as it’s a customized version of the phone-oriented Snapdragon 845. It’s clocked at higher speeds, and although it’s based on the same 10nm manufacturing process, it should provide up to 30% performance improvement and up to 20% more battery life.

With this new line of processors, Qualcomm will try to take on Intel’s low-end x86 chips. Microsoft and hardware partners are working hard to bring the first cellular-PCs to the market, and they will definitely benefit from this performance boost. Initial reviews have found that the current Windows 10 PCs powered by Snapdragon 835 perform worse than notebooks with traditional processors. Despite this fact, the new mobile-PCs have some big advantages in terms of cellular connectivity and greater battery life. A handful of new Windows 10 PCs with Snapdragon will be unveiled at the upcoming Computex show.
