Skype UWP app gets new features on Windows 10 Mobile and Desktop

New Skype features available in the Insider program for testing

Skype UWP for Windows 10 devices has been updated for both PC and Mobile to version 12.9.565.0 but only for those in the Insider Fast Ring. The update brings some of the new Skype features introduced recently to the app on Android and iOS.

Skype UWP now lets you send messages to anyone who is not in your contact list. You just need to search for a contact, and then start an instant chat. Another new feature is the ability to receive notifications in the notification panel to stay up to date, quickly open conversations and see reactions to messages.

Skype also got the ability to express your mood during a call with emoticons, reactions, text or photos. The new test version of Skype also got support for Windows Mixed Reality.

At the time of writing, the latest official version of Skype for non-Insiders in the Store is 12.8.480.0. This version is only for Windows 10 PC and Mobile. If you have an older version of Windows you have to download the desktop client from The old Windows Phone 8.1 app was discontinued.
