Universal Skype gets a major update in the Store.

New version of Skype is available to download from the Microsoft Store. Version 12.10.572.0 is live for everyone on the Windows 10 platform, including Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Mobile. It’s a significant update for Skype, as it brings some fluent design elements like a transparent sidebar and a lighting effect when hovering the mouse over the contacts on Windows PCs. These design tweaks are not visible for Windows 10 Mobile, but the Status field on the profile page is.

Instead of using toggle switchers for ‘DND’ and ‘Do Not share presence’, Skype UWP app now has a simple Status field, allowing you to choose ‘Active’, ‘Do Not Disturb’ or ‘Invisible’.

Other changes in Skype for Windows 10 are the notification panel with @mentions, as well as reactions to messages. For Windows 10 PC only, there is a ‘Gallery’ button at the top of the conversation window, showing you all shared media at a glance.

Despite the good pace of Skype UWP development and all recent updates, Microsoft still has a lot of work to do, as Skype is still quite buggy and slow.
