Samsung unveils a Windows Mixed Reality headset – the HMD Odyssey
HMD Odyssey goes on sale on November 6 for $499
Samsung is the next big name from the PC/mobile industry launching a Windows Mixed Reality headset. HMD Odyssey costs $499, and it’s the first headset with a 110-degree field of view. It relies on two AMOLED displays that could make a huge difference in quality compared with alternative LCD-based headsets with a shorter field of view.
Samsung HMD Odyssey features built-in spatial headphones, inside-out tracking, built-in microphone, and motion controllers.
Meanwhile, Microsoft announced its huge plans for the Windows Mixed Reality platform that blends the physical and the digital world at an event in San Francisco. Alex Kipman said that ‘this is the next revolution in computing’. However, it remains to be seen if the developers will embrace this Windows AR platform and create exciting new apps and games for these new types of devices.
