Samsung ATIV S devices are getting GDR2 update
The long anticipated GDR2 update for Windows Phone 8 (OS build 10327) is rolling out to ATIV S handsets. Yesterday the update was available only for the people living in Canada (those on Telus, Bell and Rogers). Today, the firmware update is available for all international unlocked Samsung ATIV S devices.
It is revealed that some of the new features like FM radio and the ability to set a third party app as a default camera app may not be supported by the hardware. Fortunately, the Other Storage issue seems to be resolved. GDR2 brings also WAV support in email and some bug fixes.
If you own an international unlocked version of ATIV S you can get the update by heading to the Settings menu -> Phone Updates -> and tap on “Check for updates”. Then the OS update will begin downloading. The whole process will take around 5-10 minutes and then you will need to wait around 20 minutes for the installation. It depends on how many apps, contacts and games you have.
Importantly, the GDR2 update fixes the Other Storage Issue. Sources close to WPCentral revealed that this specific undeletable part of the phone storage has dropped from 5.71 GB to 2.3GB (in the test phone).
