OneDrive offline access coming to Windows smartphones
New features for the mobile cloud
Windows users may soon be getting a handy new feature on their smartphones – offline access to files on the Cloud. Just like the desktop client for OneDrive, users will be able to select folders and files which they want to access offline, and these files and folders will be synced with OneDrive in case of changes.
On its official support forum User Voice, Microsoft indicated it would bring the ability to access files offline to the mobile platform as the user request was marked as “in the plans”.
With no fixed timeframe for new features, OneDrive on the phone could wait months before receiving this offline access functionality. Another rumored feature that might be coming soon to the platform is a free music streaming from Xbox Music with audio files accessed from OneDrive cloud storage. All these functionalities may be presented with Windows 10 Mobile, the operating system that will succeed the current Windows Phone 8.1.
