October 2018 updates available for Windows phones
Microsoft released the October 2018 security patches
Users on the currently supported branches of Windows 10 Mobile (1709, 1703) should now be able to install new cumulative patches on their devices. Microsoft has rolled out updates even to the out-of-support version of the platform called ‘Anniversary Update’. Like usual, no new features have been introduced. However, the company mentions some security updates to Windows Apps, Edge, Kernel and Windows Graphics. The updates are available as follows:
- For phones on the 1709 branch: Windows 10 Mobile 15254.538
- For phones on the 1703 branch: Windows 10 Mobile 15063.1390
- For phones on the 1607 branch: Windows 10 Mobile 14393.2551
According to Microsoft’s support page for Windows, the company will release security updates for Windows 10 Mobile until late 2019. However, even with them the platform has no future without some new first-party hardware. One of the new additions to the line-up for 2018 could have been a device codenamed ‘Andromeda’, which unfortunately got delayed or cancelled as Microsoft found it not good enough for a release this year.
