Now it’s time to leave the Windows Insider Fast Ring

Windows Insider Program Fast Slow

You should avoid the first ‘Redstone 2’ Insider Builds

While the official Anniversary Update (build 14393) is already rolling out to PCs, and phones have it as a Preview, Microsoft is gearing up to release new Redstone 2 builds from the Development branch.

These first ‘Redstone 2’ builds will be coming first to PCs, and after a few weeks to phones, but you shouldn’t be too excited about them. In a blog post, Microsoft gives information about what to expect from the first builds. The company explains that the first Insider build from the RS2 branch will be focused on ‘some structural improvements to OneCore” the shared core of Windows across devices. These early Redstone 2 builds will also include many bugs and problems that could be painful for some people to live with.

That’s why it’s a good idea to change your Insider ring from Fast to Slow (or Release Preview). You can even temporarily leave the Insider program and stop receiving new builds until they are stable enough.

The Insider rings are three:

1) Fast Ring is for Insiders who want to be the first to test new builds, find issues and provide suggestions.

2) Slow Ring is for builds with minimal risk to the devices and fewer bugs

3) Release Preview is for updates for the Current branch (Anniversary Update 14393.xxx)

You can change your Insider status by going to:

Settings → Updates & Security → Windows Insider Program

Choose your Insider Level, or Stop Insider Preview builds from the menu.
