New Universal Skype app to launch for Windows 10 PC and Mobile
Messaging + Skype with an uncertain future
With the introduction of Windows 10, Microsoft announced plans to streamline the Skype experience by integrating Skype into the default Messaging app and the Phone Dialer for PC and Mobile, instead of presenting a new Universal Skype app for the platform.
The company is now changing the strategy based on feedback. Microsoft is working on a new Skype app for Mobile and PC with a new look and menus.
Universal Skype [Preview] for Windows 10 PC will be available for Windows Insiders in the coming days, while the Mobile version will launch as Preview later in 2016. That means there will be two Skype apps for PC (the Win32 app and the Universal app) in the near future, but Microsoft wants to streamline all Skype experiences into the new Universal app over the years.
At the moment, there is no information whether the current Skype integration in Windows 10 will remain as an option for users who don’t want to install a conventional Skype app.
