New touch-optimized Office for phones and small tablets
Pre-installed with Windows 10 on small devices, downloadable for all other Windows devices
A brand new touch-optimized Office package will come pre-loaded on any Windows 10 device with a screen size up to 7 inches in diameter, while larger Windows devices will be able to download the new touch-based office apps from the Windows Store.
These new Office apps are universal, which means they offer exactly the same features and interface with layouts fitting the screen size of the device they have been installed on.
Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and OneNote have been completely rebuilt for touchscreen devices, and will debut with the Preview version of Windows 10 in the coming weeks. The general availability is on track for this summer, coinciding with the expected official start of the platform.
Of course, we are talking about apps optimized to work with touch, so you should not expect the full Desktop functionality to arrive on phones and tablets.
The good news is that new Office suite on the Desktop PC will also arrive in the coming months, named Office 2016.
