Microsoft to use Foursquare`s data in its personal assistant Cortana
Microsoft has recently announced that it will be investing in Foursquare $15 million. Redmond has a plans to use Foursquare`s data for its location data and services integrated in the forthcoming Windows Phone 8.1. It is a logical step if the company wants to keep competing successfully with the services offered by Google and Apple. When it comes to the personal assistant “Cortana”, which the company is currently testing for Windows Phone 8.1, it will be powered by Foursquare`s data as well. The data will be used to help Cortana make particular propositions and tips based on location. That will happen as a Foursquare`s data integration into the Bing service.
At present, Microsoft is working on the location polling in Cortana and on a better utilization of the work, home and contacts location data within the service. The Windows Phone 8.1 update, part of which is the assistant, is expected to arrive in April. It is at beta testing level and the software itself will be completed the next month.
