Lumia Black update to bring Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy support to all Lumias
One of the gaps in Windows Phone so far is the lack of support for Bluetoooth 4.0 Low Energy standard. It allows connecting hardware with less energy consumption as well as constant background syncing between devices. It is usually used in the synchronization between a handset and different accessories and leads to battery saving, especially of the accessories. For instance, the popular accessory Fitbit can sync to the iPhone continuously providing users with information for their health status. This one and other health-related and wearable accessories take a lot of advantage by this technology and now it seems that the waiting of Windows Phone users comes to an end.
Now, Nokia informs that with the upcoming Lumia Black update (previously known as Bitersweet Shimmer), this gap will be filled. We understand that Nokia has already provided the 520, 620, 625, and 720 devices with a support for Bluetooth 4.0 LE via the “Amber” update. Hi-end Lumias, however, are still waiting for it and most likely they will get it with the next Nokia firmware which is expected to roll out later this year or early next year.
