Lumia 940 / 940XL may have USB Type-C, Lumia 1040 also in the works
Lumia 940 and 940 XL will launch with Windows 10 Mobile, Lumia 1040 a bit later than expected
We need to wait several more months before we could install the final Windows 10 Mobile Build on our current smartphones – Microsoft has announced that the phone version won’t launch in the summer along with Windows 10 for PC, but a few months later, which means sometime in the fall 2015. Since the company has much work ahead, the future flagship models for which we regularly write (Lumia 940, 940 XL and 1040) cannot be presented until all software features like Continuum in Windows 10 are fully ready.
The fact that we may be in 4 to 6 months to new flagship Lumia phones doesn’t mean that the rumor mill can’t start. In fact, we have already heard many sources claiming that Lumia 940 and 940 XL will be the main flagship models for this year – one with a 5.2-inch display and one with a bigger 5.7-inch screen, both with quad-HD resolution. The list with rumored specs include six-core processor for Lumia 940, octa-core processor for Lumia 940 XL, 32 Gigs of storage, 3GB of RAM, 20MP PureView camera for both models, removable backs plus microSD slots, and 3000 /3330 mAh batteries.
USB Type-C and Iris Scanner
Yesterday, a German site added some more information to the list. The rumor has it that Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL will feature USB Type-C, which so far is not present in any smartphone, but only in the new MacBook. According to the source, USB Type-C will be necessary for the Continuum feature that transforms the phone into a computer when connected to a bigger screen.
The duo will also include iris scanner, which is necessary for the Windows Hello feature, wireless charging, aluminum body frame and removable polycarbonate back, similar to the Lumia 830.
Lumia 1040
DrWindows.de also claims that a successor to the Lumia 1020 is in the works, but the possible Microsoft Lumia 1040 won’t be out until 2016. It will be a niche smartphone, with improved PureView camera, modern and fast processor, and probably some unseen hardware and software surprises.
