A Chinese leaker claims this is the Lumia 850

Chinese website Tieba posted two photos of what appears to be an unannounced Microsoft Lumia phone. The same source claims this is the upcoming Lumia 850, but there are several clues which may suggest that we are seeing something else.

First, the phone on the pictures doesn’t include a dedicated camera button – a feature traditionally found on devices from the high-end to the ‘affordable flagship’ segments – 10xx, 9xx and 8xx series. The last 8xx phone was the Nokia Lumia 830 which had both PureView branding and a camera button.

Second, the phone appears to be very big with a screen around 5.7 to 6 inches. Some websites already reported about the size specs of this unknown phone – 155.90 x 77.23 x 6.92 / 8.50 mm, which confidently fall into the phablet category. If this is a phablet, then we are seeing an XL Lumia, not a regular one.

We also know that this phone has a removable back and a metal trim around the sides. It has a camera module similar to that found in the mid-range Lumia 640 XL, a front-facing flash or an iris scanner. Finally, sources close to NPU speculated that the phone has a 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 617 processor.

We know that Microsoft is preparing new phones for the mid-range segment and we expect one of the Lumia 650/XL, 750/XL or 850/XL to be released in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for more news on Microsoft Lumia and Windows Phone.
