Skype Preview updated with support for SMS

Microsoft has rolled out an update to the Skype Preview, bringing the app to version 11.8.180, but this update is only for Insiders on the Fast Ring. The new update adds support for SMS messages, so you can now use Skype for texting after setting the app as a default SMS app.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it would abandon its plan to integrate Skype into Messaging, and start working on the new Universal Skype app. The company is now adding the SMS functionality to Skype, which is still in a preview stage, and its final version should be coming to non-Insiders around the Redstone 2 update planned for Spring 2017.

However, don’t rush yourself to install an Insider Fast Ring build – the latest build 14926 has some major issues which you would probably want to avoid.
