Huawei Ascend W3 debuts in January, a mid-range phone made of aluminum
A few days ago in Sweden, Richard Ren made a short, but very important comment. One of the leaders of Huawei’s consumer unit in Europe said that his company will continue to develop devices running Windows Phone. He stated: “We remain one of Microsoft’s strategic partners.”
Today, the Chinese website WPDang broke the news that a new Windows Phone device will arrive early in 2014. The smartphone named Huawei Ascend W3 is expected to debut at CES 2014 in January. WPDang has posted two pictures of the new handset. They show a slim metal design, similar to the Lumia 925, with a body made of aluminum and a shape that resembles Ascend D2 and P6. The pictures show two optional colors – the phone will be available in Yellow and Blue.
Huawei Ascend W3 has the logo of China Mobile, so this is basically a China Mobile variant. The third Windows Phone by Huawei after Ascend W1 and W2 is also expected at China Telecom and China Unicom – it will support multiple LTE carriers in the country. There is no word for a US or European release. Hopefully, we will learn more in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
