The preview of Windows Phone’s Update 1 reveals some new abilities for clients given by the new Bluetooth profiles. Among the novelties are PAN (personal area network) 1.0 profile, aptX codec support for A2DP, and browsing support for AVRCP.

The difference made by the new PAN could be immediately seen when Internet Sharing is being done.

In the past this function was being operated by the on / off toggle, the device name and the given password. Also, with the new update you get an additional section allowing you to choose how to share the connection – through Wi-fi or Bluetooth.

What makes the difference between Update 1 and the 8.1 release is just the ability to share Internet connection through Bluetooth. It might be a little bit slower and not so effective but it could be really useful for some devices.
