Less than three months after launching its check-in application Swarm for Android and iPhones, Foursquare has enabled the service for Windows Phone devices.
Swarm is a standalone app that allows you to check-in and find friends nearby. You can check-in at public venues, bars, clubs, stadiums, restaurants and other places and then the app will show you all friends around you. Swarm is also a recommendation service, as it gives suggestions for places nearby.
The cool thing in Swarm is that even if you forget to check-in, your friends will be able to see your location. The app uses passive location signals, so Swarm for Windows Phone will automatically detect location and gives recommendations for places and friends. Users can also share their activities and send messages to friends.
Earlier this year, Foursquare unveiled its plans to split its popular check-in service into two standalone apps. While Foursquare remains more focused on the social aspect, Swarm is a simple tool for sharing user’s location. You can grab Swarm for free from the Windows Store and start checking in.
