First major update of Windows 10 is rolling out to millions of PCs
Windows Insiders already has build 10586
Microsoft has announced the first major update of Windows 10 after the official launch in the summer. Windows 10 Fall Update arrives with build number 10586 – the update will be rolled out in stages, but you can download it as an ISO right now.
The Windows 10 Fall 2015 Update includes a number of enhancements over the first public release and many of them target enterprise consumers.
For all regular users it is worth noting that build 10586 is around 30% faster compared with Windows 7 on the same device, according to Microsoft.
Cortana is now available in more countries – Japan, Australia, Canada and India. She can track daily events, recommend movies and suggest Uber pick-ups. Microsoft Edge browser comes with performance and security improvements, tab preview, and Favorites & Reading list syncing across devices. Cortana also alerts about missed calls from a Windows Phone, while you can reply with text directly from the PC, or ignore the message.
Windows 10 Build 10586 adds a fourth medium Live Tile per group on the Start Screen. In Settings – System – Storage, you will find a new option to install apps on external storage (like microSD).
This update also includes many other small tweaks and improvements which should make your Windows 10 smoother. Microsoft will release the next major update of Windows 10 in Spring 2016 – an update codenamed ‘Redstone’.
Meanwhile, all Windows Insiders will still be getting new preview builds with OS improvements and new features.
