Firmware update finally enables ‘Double tap to wake’ for Lumia 950 / 950 XL
The update was spotted in the Windows Device Recovery Tool
For some unknown reason, the Microsoft’s latest devices that shipped with Windows 10 Mobile out of the box didn’t come with ‘Double Tap to wake up’ – one of the features that everyone loved and used from the old days of Windows Phone 8 and Nokia. At the same time, the older phones like Lumia 930, 830 and others, that received an update to Windows 10 Mobile, has the feature in Settings → Touch. Microsoft recently announced in the support forums that the feature would be added to the new models if many users upvoted in the feedback app.
Today, a Windows Insider from Sweden has posted a screenshot of a new firmware update for his Lumia 950 XL (950) which seems to enable Double tap to wake on the phone. Firmware version 01078.00053.16236.35018 is now available for some users, but only via the Windows Device Recovery Tool.
However, as the firmware has been approved and it’s already up in the servers, owners of Lumia 950 and 950 XL should be able to get the OTA (over the air) update in the coming weeks, depending on the region.
